Chay Carter

Pastor

I am Chay Carter. I am from Ohio, but I grew up in Denton,TX. I am the one of nine kids between my mom (1/6) and my dad (1/4) side. Growing up my trajectory was athlete, gang-member or scholar. I am an extroverted, passionate, curious and thoughtful person (always been that way). Although I grew up in the black church I became a Christian when I was 19 (That’s 2017…yikes I’m old). I sensed a call to go into ministry during my junior year of college during the pandemic. I went on staff with a college ministry that specialized in campus evangelism, and discipleship. Shortly after, I married my wife Payton Carter( We met all 2020, married Feb.2022). She is a genius who got her degree in accounting, graduated early and definitely is the brains of the operation. We have a daughter who is 2 (born January 1st…why does that matter? You’ll see) and we have son on the way who’s due date is the 4th of July (Crazy right!?).

I just transitioned from that ministry in April of 25’ to pursue being a lead pastor. I’m currently in school to grow in deeper in my Bible knowledge and I’m apprenticing under some pastors at the village Church in Denton. I love to read about history, sports, and black culture. This month I launched a website for a vision the Lord has been forming the last 7 years. Took a while but my brain-child is out the womb, I’ve launched a website for Crooked Sticks. Crooked Sticks is a media publishing company for blogs and podcast committed to training black men and women in discipleship and evangelism while using History, Hip-hop and other forms of media art.
